I will always remember Alessio and Cristina as “the couple who stayed”.
In February 2020, the world came to a halt—a moment we will all remember forever. This pause lasted months and was marked by uncertainty, discouragement, cancellations, postponements, and even separations, unfortunately. Tremendous losses occurred—not just economically, but psychologically and emotionally.
Our businesses survived by a miracle. Couples like Alessio and Cristina gave us the courage and strength to look forward, because they were among the first who showed strength and courage themselves, by choosing to stay!
Despite the uncertainties of shaky planning, unusual video calls, slower rhythms, protocols to study and adopt, and the fear of not making it—the 19th of September turned from an impossible dream into one of the most intense and important days of our lives.
The morning of the wedding, I felt as excited as if it were my first time. When I stopped by Cristina’s house to say hello and do a “bride mood check,” it felt like I’d been set free after months in a cage!
I found the groom in church, more emotional and anxious than ever. Alessio represents a piece of my personal history: we were classmates in middle school and part of the same “crew” during high school, both still full of shared memories and anecdotes we lived side by side.
With university and life passing by, we had lost touch, but on the occasion of his wedding to Cristina, we reconnected! And despite the mandatory masks while moving around, the underlying fear we all had of catching the virus and being stuck, and an internalized “distrust” towards others…the desire to celebrate this wedding triumphed over everything and everyone!
Our wedding lunch was waiting for us at a new venue, where we were working for the very first time. I had always dreamed of organizing a wedding at Baglio Strafalcello, in Buseto Palizzolo, just two minutes from Scopello, in the Castellammare del Golfo area.
A stunning place that my newlyweds and I fell in love with at first sight, from the very first visit. With its rustic and authentic charm, it’s more carefully curated than most venues of its kind, full of corners and views steeped in beauty. Open for just over a year and run by wonderful people, it truly was the idyllic setting the couple had been looking for!
White shaded structures, with flowing drapes that dance to the rhythm of the hillside breeze, long imperial tables, olive branches and lemons defining our concept—from the charger plate to the favors, from the floral arrangements to the tones of our color palette.
Exquisite food, loving friends and family, and a vibrant band with a versatile, dance-worthy repertoire made for an afternoon filled with joy, lightness, and fun—just what we all needed after so much hardship and fear.
With the pandemic briefly on pause in our minds, we experienced intense moments—wild dancing, lively conga lines, and unexpected, fun games! A romantic cake cutting at dusk, framed by the breathtaking colors of the sunset and a distant view of the Egadi Islands, followed by more drinks, music, and partying into the night!
One moment from that day has stayed with me, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget it: the couple’s embrace, their “thank you for everything,” to which—bursting into tears, overwhelmed by a mix of joy, repressed frustration, and endless gratitude—I responded from the heart, with all my strength: “Thank you, for believing in us, for staying, for walking this path with me, against all odds, until the very end.” Thank you!
